PIX - Patient Identity Cross Reference

The Universal Patient Index directly matches Patient IDs across health transactions. It implements the Patient Identity Cross-Reference (PIX) transaction defined by Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise. With it, the sender sends its package using the sender’s Patient ID, and the receiver receives the package with the receivers Patient ID.

In the event that the receiver has not indexed the Patient ID for the subject patient, the Universal Patient Index initiates a Cross-Community Patient Discovery (XCPD) transaction to index the Patient ID of the receiver. After the receiver indexes the Patient ID of the subject patient in response to the XCPD, the receiver will never need to respond to another XCPD associated with the subject patient ever again.

The Universal Patient Index’s self-sovereignty ensures that any and every PIX is transparent and under the sovereignty of the user. Users may block or allow PIX transactions between any party.

Using the PIX, the Universal Patient Index cross-references the identity of the subject patient between the sender and receiver eliminating costly misidentification errors and labor intensive identity matching procedures for both parties to every health transaction.

Biotech Wallets

Patients use self-sovereign biotech wallets to index their biometrics and their multiple health identities on the Universal Patient Index.

Biotech wallets are self-sovereign health identity digital services that hold a patient’s revocable, recoverable and reissuable keys to the Universal Patient Index and host its self-sovereign health record. Biotech wallets can be bound to user DNA for proof of personhood and proof of uniqueness.

The Universal Patient Index requires no modification to existing computer systems so its emergence as a platform is not dependent on its adoption by doctors or hospitals.
